Striped bonito is found in temperate and tropical regions of the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean. It can be seen from the waters south of the Tohoku region of Japan, often migrating in groups on the coastal surface. It can be caught in large quantities from summer to autumn every year. Striped bonito lives in waters between 1 and 30 meters. It swims fast, moves agilely, and has a ferocious temperament. The optimum water temperature is 13.5 to 23°C. Carnivorous, mainly small fish.
The Striped bonito is similar to the flat rudder bonito, with a spindle-shaped body. Conical head. The snout is blunt and long, the upper and lower jaws are of equal length, and each has a row of sharp teeth. The caudal peduncle is thin and powerful, with a raised ridge on each side, and the caudal fin is crescent-shaped. But there are 6 to 7 dark stripes on the back of the body, which can be distinguished. The jaws are strong, especially the lower jaw. Striped bonito can be up to 1 meter in length, but generally around 50 cm. The body is fusiform, the mouth is large; the caudal peduncle is slender and the tail has a fin. The fish has thin scales, blue-green back, with several almost parallel dark blue vertical stripes, two rows of black spots behind and below the pectoral fins, and silver-white belly. The caudal fin is deeply forked.
